Cameroon

Cameroon is sandwiched between its powerful neighbor Nigeria to the north and Equatorial Guinea to the south. French Cameroon achieved independence in 1960 and the largely Christian southern third of British Cameroon voted to join the Republic of Cameroon .Cameroon is a mountainous region dominated by the highest mountain in West Africa, and Africa's highest active Volcano, Mt Cameroon, which sits on the edge of the Gulf of Guinea and is a popular mountaineering destination. Cameroon's most famous national park, Waza National Park, with its huge numbers of elephant, giraffe, lion, antelope and birdlife (open from mid-November to mid-June). Cameroon's economic capital, positioned on the Wouri River a few miles from the coast.  French and English are the official languages, although French is more commonly spoken and is the language of business. Cameroon is bordered by the CAR, Chad, the ROC, Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria.

The climate varies according to the region. In the south, the dry season runs from November to February, the little rainy season from March to June and the big rains come between August and September. In the south there are two dry seasons, December to February and July to September. The northern part of the country has a more comfortable climate. Total rainfall is about 31.2 inches, and the mean temperature ranges from 23°C to 26°C (73°F - 79°F). The dry season in the north is from October to April

Tourism is limited, but those that venture in enjoy the beach areas near Kribi, the interesting capital city of Yaoundé, and the abundant wildlife of the national parks, and especially the elephants found in Waza National Park. Cameroon population is 17,340,702. The flag is a tricolor of green, red, and yellow vertical stripes with one gold star imprinted in the center of the red stripe.

Douala, Cameroon's main city, is a  sweltering metropolis that is seething with people. The capital of Yaounde is a better city . Buea and the Mount Cameroon area have long. The city of Kumba is probably best known for the picturesque crier lake called Lake Barombi Mbo. Mundemba is also a popular tourist The town of Bafoussam is popular for the many crafts shops The hilltop town of Bamenda was once very popular.

The Cameroonian economy is primarily agricultural, with principal commercial crops being cocoa, coffee, tobacco, cotton and bananas. Petroleum products make up more than half of all exports. Timber is also a major export.
