Benin is a country in Western Africa and is surrounded by Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo. It is one of the smaller countries in West Africa. The country’s capital is Porto-Novo; Porto-Novo is Benin’s second largest city.
Benin is world’s 101st country with 112,622 km square total area. According to 2009 estimate, the country has 6,769,914 population. The life expectancy of the country’s population is 53 years.
Benin is divided into twelve departments (administrative political subdivision). The departments are further subdivided into communes (towns).
The economy of country entirely depends upon agriculture, cotton production, and regional trade. The country is also planning to give more emphasis on increasing the development of food processing systems and agricultural products, tourism and to promote new information and communication technology to attract more foreign investment. |
