Belarus is a country situated in Eastern Europe and is surrounded by Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. The country’s capital is Minsk; Minsk is the largest city in Belarus, situated on the Svislach and Niamiha rivers. Belarus is world’s 85th country with 207,600 km square total area. Forty percent of the country is covered with forests. According to 2008 estimate, the country has 9,689,800 population, ranking 86th in the world. Belarus is divided into 6 Voblasts (Provinces / States) which are further subdivided into Raions (Districts), cities and towns. There are many streams and lakes in Belarus. The Neman, the Pripyat, and the Dnepr are the three major rivers of the country. The country’s highest point is Dzyarzhynskaya Hara (Dzyarzhynsk Hill) at 345 meters. The economy of country depends upon Agriculture and Manufacturing sectors. Agricultural products include potatoes and cattle byproducts, including meat. The country also consists of natural resources which include chalk, clay, dolomite, granite, gravel, marl, natural gas, oil and sand. | |
