Bahrain is an island country the Persian Gulf. The country island is connected with Saudi Arabia by the King Fahd Causeway. The bridge named Qatar–Bahrain Friendship Bridge is planned to connect Bahrain to Qatar as the longest fixed link in the world. The country’s capital is Manama; Manama is the largest city of Bahrain.
Bahrain is world’s 189th country with 665 km square total area. According to 2007 estimate, the country island has 1,046,814 population, ranking 154th in the world. Jabal ad Dukhan is the highest point in Bahrain with hills up to 134 meters above sea level.
Bahrain is divided into five governorates; the governorates are subdivided into municipalities and villages. The country has a cluster of thirty-three islands. The largest islands of country are Bahrain Island, Muharraq Island, Umm an Nasan, and Sitrah.
The economy of country depends on oil production, banking and financial services sector, particularly Islamic banking. The country produces natural resources in large quantity like oil, natural gas and fish stocks. Tourism sector is also an important factor in the economic growth of country; over eight million tourists visit the country in a year from the surrounding Arab states and other countries. |
