Armenia is a country in South Caucasus between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. The country is surrounded by Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran and Turkey. The land rises to 13,420 ft above sea-level at Mount Aragats, and no point is below 1,280 ft above sea level. The land is mostly mountainous, with fast flowing rivers and few forests. The climate is subjected to hot summers and cold winters. The country’s capital is Yerevan, Yerevan is the largest city of Armenia, situated on the Hrazdan River, and is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country.
Armenia is world’s 142nd country with 29,800 km square total area. According to 2008 estimate, the country has 3,231,900 population, ranking 133rd in the world.
Armenia is divided into 10 Provinces (States) and a city, Yerevan. Each Province is further divided into communities or municipalities. Each community is self-governing and consists of one or more settlements or towns or villages. The country has 915 municipalities, of which 49 are considered as urban and 866 as rural. Yerevan is also divided into twelve semi-independent districts.
The politics of Armenia is only one legislative or parliamentary chamber which is controlled by a fusion of four political parties: the conservative Republican party, the Prosperous Armenia party, the Rule of Law party and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation.
