Algeria is multi party state under a constitution and has had more than 40 legal political parties up to now. Algerian parliament has two houses, a lower house and an upper house. Lower house comprises the National People's Assembly (APN), with 380 members; and an upper house comprises the Council of Nation, with 144 members.
The economy of country depends on fossil fuels energy sector, thus it ranks 14th in petroleum reserves, containing 11.8 billion barrels and ranks 8th largest country in the world for its natural gas reserves. About one fourth of people are employed in agricultural sector. The main cereals which are produced here are wheat, barley and oats. It also exports a large variety of vegetables fruits, figs, dates, esparto grass, and cork.
Algeria is the world's 11th largest country with 2,381,741 km square total area. Most of the coastal area of the country is hilly, mountainous and have small group of Natural seaports i.e. harbors. According to 2008 estimate, the country has 33,769,669 population, ranking 35th in the world. Ethnic groups of Algeria include Arabs and Berber.
Algeria is divided into 48 Provinces (states) each province is further divided into 553 districts and 1,541 municipalities.
