Bangladesh is a country situated in South Asia and is bordered by India, Myanmar (Burma) and Bay of Bengal. The country is located in the low-lying Ganges-Brahmaputra River Delta or Ganges Delta. The country’s capital is Dhaka; Dhaka is a mega city and one of the important cities of South Asia. Bangladesh is world’s 94th country with 147,570 km square total area. According to 2007 estimate, the country has 150,448,340 population, ranking 7th in the world. The country is among the most densely populated countries in the world and has a high poverty rate. Bangladesh is divided into six administrative divisions; administrative divisions are subdivided into sixty four districts and districts are further subdivided into sub districts. The region with in each sub district (except metropolitan areas) is divided into unions which consist of multiple villages and the region of metropolitan areas is divided into wards which are further divided into mahallas. The most popular sports of Bangladesh are Soccer and Cricket. Other sports which are popular are field hockey, tennis, badminton, handball, volleyball, chess, carrom games, and kabadi. Kabadi is the national sport of Bangladesh. | |
